Illustrations for Berthold Brecht's "Geschichten vom Herrn Keuner", published by "Büchergilde Augsburg"
Brief
The illustration is part of a collection of Brecht’s lyrical work visualised by several students of the illustration course at the University of Applied Sciences Augsburg. Brecht’s work contains parables, aphorisms, and anecdotes, which serve as simple commentaries on the world and events.
Insight
Berthold Brecht effectively addresses a wide variety of issues, from political ones to questions about god, love and truth. The challenge was to bring his philosophical work and lyrical style – laconic, thoughtful and surprising – into a matching visualisation.
Idea
The illustration of Brecht’s parable ‘Architecture’ shows the historical process of architectural design. It visually translates his thoughts about our fast moving times and the ephemeral conception of art. He speaks up for trusting the progress of mankind and letting go old perceptions.
